If there is one thing that every nation hates, it’s total silence. 

Total silence means that they can’t even hear that weak buzzing from their people, the sound they have heard all their lives. If that is gone…what are they then? 

Almost all nations, especially the ones participating in the world wars have experienced this a few times. That temporary deaf experience that a lot of people suffered from due to the bombs also affected them, making them unable to hear their people. This scared them, a lot. Not only did they feel vulnerable but they also tasted, for the first time for many, that they can become affected by this new way of waging war. The old way, with two armies facing each other on a battle field during the summer,with wounds and damages their status as countries could heal…Does no longer exist. Would a bomb drop on them, would they survive? These are the thoughts that appeared after world war two. Total silence reminds them of this vulnerability, it makes them weary. 

And this is why they fear it.
